Question MikeH

Hi,

I have a nice cedar deck that's on it's second year - but I'm frustrated with the finish, it keeps turning very dark, nearly black due the the sun. I researched finishes and it seems the Sikkens brand is highest rated. My question is, what do I need to do to prepare my deck for this new finish - I assume I have to remove the old finish (Penofil) and clean it, but what products do you recommend (and process)? Thanks in advance for your advice.

There are may different products you could use to strip the old finish off the deck. I would recommend TimberPro products becuase they are great products and I manufacture and sell them. The are designed for contractors and come in quantities larger than you would need to do one deck. I would recommend finding a quality professional in your area to remove the existing finish and apply a quality oil finish that will be easy to maintain. If you are still interested in doing the work yourself, please search the forum for steps to take to restore your deck.

Thanks Brian for your reply. If I decide to have the pros do the work, do you have any recommendations for contractors in southeastern michigan?
